How It All Started

I first heard about surrogacy about 3 1/2 years ago when Diedre Hall's story came out. It touched my heart to hear how Ms. Hall's long, painful struggle with infertility was finally over, thanks to the kindness and generosity of another human being. My husband, Joey, and I talked about it and began discussing how difficult it must be for couples who try so hard to have a child and are continuously met with disappointment, month after month. Pregnancy has always come so easily for us and, up until that time, I don't think we realized how lucky we were.

Toward the end of our discussion, I casually stated, "You know...I could do that..." (meaning become a surrogate) Joey just kinda nodded and said, "Yea, you could", but, I don't think he thought I was serious. Of course, I didn't actually make the decision to become a surrogate that very day, but, that is when seed was planted and my interest in the subject began to grow. I knew it was something that I would like to consider further.
