My Journey Through Surrogacy

27 Week Update - 9/30/98

Well, we had our 27 week US today.  The babies are both doing great!!! Scott weighs 2 lbs 13 oz and Madeline weighs 2 lbs 12 oz!!!  Our dr said they are both in the 75th percentile.  I can't believe their weights!!! They have almost DOUBLED in only 4 weeks!!!  Madeline was head up yesterday (I could feel her head up by my ribs), but, she was head down by the time we had the US today.  She is head up again now, though.  I am predicting she is going to be a gymnast when she grows up!   LOL!  I am not sure how Scott is positioned.  By the time, the dr started scanning him, I was feeling hot, nauseaus and dizzy again from laying on my back too long, so I was too out of it to pay much attention.  I can't feel Scott's head anywhere and he seems to be the one who is always kicking me in the ribs, so I tend to think that he is head down.  My fundal height is a whopping 38cm!!!!!!!!!   In other words, I am about the size of a woman who is 38 weeks with a singleton!!!  And just think, I have a minimum or 7, maximum of 11 more weeks to go!!!  YIKES!!! So far, I have gained 28 lbs and the dr says that is perfect!  I am still feeling fairly good, although I do tire out alot quicker than I used to. It is also very difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position, these days.  I have to turn over every half hour or so because my hip starts to hurt after staying on one side too long.   I may end up sleeping in a recliner before it is all overwith.

I found out today that I failed the 1 hour glucose test and will have to go back for the 3 hour test either Friday or Tuesday.  I am not looking forward to drinking that nasty stuff again!  :(  I hope and pray that it comes back negative this time!  After the dr. visit, Scott, Bev, my daughter (Jessie) and I went out to lunch and then went to the hospital to pre-register.  Everyone at the hospital was great and so positive about the surrogacy!!!  The lady who registered us said that she and her husband considered surrogacy before they finally became pg after trying for 10 years!  Small world, isn't it!?!?

Oh, one more thing...when Bev and I were sitting in the waiting room waiting to see the lady who would take care of our registration, Madeline decided to say "hi" to her Mom in her own special way!  It was the first time Bev was able to feel her daughter move and it was such a beautiful moment to witness!!!  Needless to say, the tears were just a flowin'!!! Unfortunately, Scott wouldn't cooperate, so they didn't get to feel him move, but, maybe next time...  I still can't believe how far we have come together and how close we are getting to the grand finale!  What a blessing it has been to be able to partake in this incredible journey with Scott and Bev!

28 Week Update - 10/7/98

Just a quick note to let you know that my 3 hour glucose tolerance test yesterday and the results came back negative! I do not have gestational diabetes!  Yeah!  What a relief!
