My Journey Through Surrogacy
by: Jenn

The First Meeting

The day of our first meeting finally arrived! My potential couple was flying into Dallas to meet Merritt, Joey and I for lunch. I was so excited and a little nervous, too. I hadn't spoken to the couple yet and I didn't know much about them other than a few basic facts. They, on the other hand, had already read pages and pages about me and, from the way Merritt talked, they had already made the tentative decision to work with me. Needless to say, I felt a little bit worried about what to expect and what I would say if I didn't feel the same way. As soon as I saw them walking to our table, however, I felt as if my fears were put to rest and I was able to relax. Joey and I both liked them right away and felt very comfortable with them. We spent the next 2 hours or so talking and getting to know one another. They were very down to earth and easy to talk to...just a normal, loving couple, a lot like Joey and myself. What a relief!

As we were getting ready to go, Merritt told us all to go home and talk things over with our spouses and when we made a decision about whether or not we would like to work together, call the agency and let them know. Well, that wasn't good enough for my dear husband. Joey interjected, "Well, why do we have to *call* you and tell you? Can't we just tell you right now?" I think Merritt was a little surprised, but, she said, "Yes, you can if you want to..." Joey replied, "Well, I don't have to think about it. We all seem to have a lot in common and get along well. What do you think?" We all looked at each other and agreed. Then, one by one, we each told Merritt that we were ready to commit to this match.
