The goal of Surrogate Mothers Online is to provide information and support to individuals who are interested in pursuing a surrogacy or egg/sperm donor arrangement. The time and effort put into creating and maintaining this site are the voluntary contributions of dedicated surrogate mothers, egg donors, and parents via surrogacy who want to provide support and information to those interested in surrogacy. We are not associated with any professionals in the field of surrogacy, adoption, egg donation, or sperm donation.  Below you will find more about our history and the volunteers who make up Surrogate Mothers Online.

Shannon
Shannon became owner of SMO in January, 2005.  Before taking over ownership of the site, Shannon was administrator of our message boards for many years. She was responsible for overseeing the boards and supervising the board moderators.
Born and raised in Central California, she relocated to Texas in June of 2004 with her husband and two daughters. Shannon is a gestational surrogate mother who delivered Joshua in February 2001, and Delaney in August 2003. She tried for a sibling for her first couple in January 2004, and became pregnant on the first transfer, however the pregnancy ended as a chemical pregnancy and her IF's decided not to continue. Shannon and her husband welcomed their third child to their family, a son who was born in April of 2005. In November 2007 she gave birth to boy/girl twins for an International couple.  Most recently, she completed her fourth gestational surrogacy for a single Intended Father, giving birth to a boy in November 2009.  Shannon enjoys a close relationship with all of her surrogate families and keeps in regular contact with all of them.

Jenn Z.

Jenn Z., from Texas, created the Surrogate Mothers Online web site in April of 1997.  Her goal was to educate others about surrogacy and to give those interested in surrogacy a place to come together for support and information. Jenn owned SMO until April, 2000, at which time she passed the site on to Kara. Jenn was a gestational surrogate who delivered twins in October, 1998.

Kara
Kara was part of SMO almost from its conception. She started out as a listserv moderator and then became the list administrator. She became the owner of Surrogate Mothers Online in April, 2000.  She retired from the surrogacy community in August 2003.

Sherry
Sherry moderated the SMO listserv for over three years before taking over ownership of SMO in August, 2003.   She delivered her first surro baby in May, 2000; and her second, for the same family, in February, 2002.  She gave birth to her third surro baby in October 2005.  Sherry is once again serving as listserv moderator for the website.

Susan
Susan, a message board moderator, is a proud mom to two boys of her own. She is a gestational surrogate to Ian (born in 2000) for one set of IP's and then began a second journey for the same intended parents who wanted siblings. Upon the 2nd surrogacy journey she became pregnant with twins, Megan and Matthew (born in 2001). During her pregnancy the intended parents unfortunately changed their minds about having more children and divorced, so Susan became the twins legal mother in the State of California in 2002. She was then able to adopt the twins to a very loving and deserving mother and father. She sees them often and has developed a loving relationship with the new parents and the twins. She enjoys surrogacy so much that she went onto a new set of intended parents and tried for 2 years to help them conceive a precious little one. After 8 IVF failures, they found that there was a genetic problem that they didn't know about. The problem was fixed with the embryos and she delivered healthy boy/girl twins for them.  Susan is currently cycling with a new couple who are long time friends of hers and she just found out she is pregnant!

Jeff
Jeff, a message board moderator, is a proud Intended Father from New York City.  He and his partner of 17 years have a gorgeous son, Henry, from their wonderful surrogate, Jessica. Jeff is a huge advocate of Traditional Surrogacy. In his spare time, he's a Professor of Psychology with a background in adolescent development, and a sex researcher!  His areas of research include HIV/AIDS, LGBT issues, and sexual health promotion.

Kymberli
Kymberli, a message board moderator, is a proud mother to four beautiful children and wife to Frank, who is a stay-at-home father. She is an eighth grade Literature teacher and serves as a middle grades curriculum writer for her school system. Kym has been a part of the SMO community since early 2002. In 2004, she found intended parents through the SMO Classified Ads. Unfortunately, their one cycle ended in a failed transfer; however, the friendship that was formed endured and their families are still close friends. In 2006 Kym matched again through an SMO connection and in 2007, she delivered a healthy boy to her intended parents. Shortly before delivery, Kym once again used SMO as a resource, this time to find a recipient for her breast milk. (Now retired) fellow moderator Lisa answered the call! Kym is proudly her daughter's breast milk donor, jokingly and lovingly dubbed the "Dairy Queen". Kym is currently matched with an international couple and is looking forward to another successful journey.

Rebekah
Rebekah, a message board moderator, is married to her highschool sweetheart and mom of two busy kids. She works full time as a Human Resources Administrator for an environmental engineering consulting firm. She is proud to have been part of the SMO community since 2005. She matched with her first couple through an agency in 2006 and delivered their daughter in July 2007. They tried for a sibling with the last of her IP's frozen embryos but had a failed transfer. She matched with her second GS couple in mid 2009 and delivered their daughter in November 2010.
