Ladies - have any of you travelled to the clinic before retrieval for a 1day visit? I just received my itinerary and I am only in the clinic for 1.5 hours
WHAT?? My IF's are spending so much money (and of course all the time that it takes me to travel from Philly to Portland - 3 days of travel) just for 1.5 hours??? I thought this would be an all day visit. Is it really necessary considering I am already an experienced donor and know how to do shots ![]()

Yes for my first donation I had to go to the clinic so the RE could see me. The appointment itself wasn't very long at all. We made a weekend of it though and did some touristy stuff.

If you're using a different clinic than your other donations chances are they will require an in office visit to clear you before you begin your cycle. They will do a full physical, ultrasound, initial blood work, etc. They may also require an in house psych eval.
I've had to do this for all of my donations but my current one because it is so close to the second (and that clinic has really thorough initial testing). It may not take that long but it is a careful part of the vetting process for donors. For example for previous donors sometimes at these appointments they will find a cyst--which is something that needs to be caught and dealt with before you begin meds and/or might keep you from donating for a bit. Cysts really mess with cycles and often reduce the number of eggs a donor produces (and that's if she is allowed to continue to retrieval). I've met a couple IPs who had this happen with their donors--it's terribly disappointing (and can't always be caught before meds start, but sometimes can). |

Is it necessary? No. Will you be able to talk them out of it? No.
It's a giant waste of money and time and one of the reasons I didn't like the idea of using them. Two trips are just not necessary (not including the mock cycle for the GS)! Anything they need could either be obtained from your previous cycle or done here. I'd start scheduling time at a spa! ![]()

Maybe see if your IFs can talk them out of it, but you most likely will not be able to. It's a huge waste of time and money, but it comes with the territory, unfortunately.

My last two donations (Dallas and San Diego) I talked them out of this appt. Absolutely unnecessary.

I've been able to as well, except for my CFA cycles. Her RE won't hear of it. I tried.

Yep - flew out for a whole day of testing, evals, etc. Although all my stuff took 4 hours or more (BTW I was current on all testing and evals PRIOR to flying out). Some clinics are just stricter than others. The clinic I went to was CCRM and they only trust their own testing. I also had to be there for the entire time I was on stims (close to 14 days).
PCRM is very similar to CCRM - but a little less uptight and more friendly IMHO. If you cant get the clinic to take test results from somewhere closer to you then don't sweat it. PCRM is great to work with and the doctors will treat you as a patient rather than just a commodity. Anyhow have fun for your one day visit but three day trip here ;) Last edited by artsy_helper : 07-29-2010 at 10:50 PM. |
