Exciting News...

So I haven't posted in awhile (and frankly, for superstitious reasons, I have been avoiding the boards like the plague), but here is my update...

As you might recall, I am the known egg donor for my best friend. Because of my relatively "advanced" age (was 36 at time of cycling), we did one intented frozen cycle in September before he had matched with a surrogate. It did not appear to go all that well, and we ended up with one viable blast to freeze.

We decided to go ahead and do another frozen cycle straight away. That seemed to go much better (7 were progressing well at Day 3), but again, we ended up with 1 to freeze at day 5.

IF decided to go ahead and do PGD on the 2 frozen embryos. One passed, one didn't. In the meantime, he'd matched with a surrogate, so we waited for her to pass all of her screening and get ready to go, and did a planned fresh cycle. We transferred 3 on day 3, but BFN.

But on July 8, both IF and the (amazing) surrogate arrived to stay with me (I live close to the IVF center, neither of them do). We had an amazing visit, which included the July 9 transfer of the 1 frozen blast that passed PGD. Both IF and I were feeling very pessimistic, and ready to start processing that he was going to have to give up on his dream of parenthood. This was, he had decided (for both financial and emotional reasons), his last shot, and we did not have any real hope of success.

But Monday's beta (10dp5dt) was 97, and yesterday's beta (12dp5dt) was 271! After a year of heartache on his behalf, I'm still feeling some disbelief, but although it is very early, I am really starting to have some hope that somewhere around the end of March, he's going to be a dad! And it is hard to believe after all that, it is that very first blast from that very first cycle that seems to be the answer to our prayers. As many of you have told me throughout this process... it only takes one!
