I have a question regarding health insurance. My health insurace company sent a letter denying all of my doctors claims during the month of June. When calling to see what was going on, they stated that they cancelled my insurance policy.
Well today I got a call from my doctors office stating that they recieved a bill from the insurance company for all of the charges they covered dated back to January 1st of 2008. The insurance company says I have to submit a dispute in writing to my previous employeer (since this was a COBRA policy) and it would take 30 days to here back from them. I have been paying my monthly premium and they stated that this amount will be refunded to me. My question is this, is it legal for them to cancel you like that if you have been paying your monthly premiums? Is there anything I can do? Or is it pointless to even take the time to write this letter? Thank you in advance for any information you can give me!

I am not an insurance attorney, so I am afraid I can't help you here. My area of expertise is assisted reproductive technology. I do know that whenever someone gets a claim denied in this area, the first thing we recommend is that they appeal it. Sometimes they do, in fact, get relief. Having your insurance cancelled has grave consequences, so please don't give up!
Good luck!! Diane |
