Default Insurance Issues

I am super stressed, so I will start off by saying, I am sorry if this is a little jumbled.

I saw my OB yesterday, when I got there I was told to talk to the office manager. Well I got in her office and she says that insurance denied the last claim they sent in. She had called the insurance company and my policy was closed!

I had set my policy to be on automatic payments in the end of May, with the understanding it would cover the June payment. Well apparently they didnt draft the money out of my account, but I never checked to verify, I just subtracted it out of my ledger.

Now the office manager is freaking out (practically yelling but didn't since there was someone else in the office) and is demanding full payment for all of my ultrasounds and the OB care (which isn't even due until delivery) now! I told her I can be added on to my husbands insurance in a matter of days and they would cover delivery and that I have another policy that is going to be taking effect on the 1st of August since I was planning on getting rid of my COBRA plan as soon as the twins were born. That isn't good enough for her though, she needs it now, and wants the lady from our agency to call her today!

When I got home I checked my email, and in my junk box I found the letter from the insurance company stating they denied the claim in my junk box. They may have sent notice about cancelling it, but if they sent it to my junk box I would not have seen it. Anywho, they refuse to reinstate it.

Like I said, I am super stressed. I don't know what to do. Right now, this puts me in breech of contract since I am supposed to carry this insurance and pay for it out of pocket since leaving my old job was not surrogacy related.

What do I do? Do I have to go and purchase a Llyods of London policy (if so where do I go to do it? and would it even be in effect in time for delivery?) The lady at our agency is going to be so pi$$ed at me, I am sure she will refuse to work with me on my next journey.

If you pay the back payment they will reinstate your policy. We have had this happen a couple of times with our surro, she was late paying the premium and they sent notice of cancellation and denied a claim and she called them and paid by phone and they reinstated everything back to normal and paid the claim. She has BCBS. Its worth trying.

I would stay away from Llyod's of London. That would be a waste of money.

My Lloyd's of London policy was $9,000 and the deductible was unreal. I don't think that is the way to go.

I just got off of the phone with the insurance company and looked into paying the back payment and reinstating the policy. Since it was COBRA, I have to submit an appeal in writing to the company I used to work for, and they will get back to me in 30 days.

Unfortunately my doctor won't let me carry for another 30 days, and I may go on my own in that time anywho, so that option doesn't look really great either

Well, if it comes down to it, the hospital itself cannot refuse you. If you have any problems and the OB refuses to see you, go to your ER. They'll send you to the obstetrics floor and you'll be taken care of.

Thats too bad they would not work with you to reinstate, especially since it was their fault. I don't think they can legally cancel you if you were set up for automatic deductions from your bank account, unless you did not have the money in the account to cover it. If it were me and they failed to deduct my money like they were supposed to and then they tried to cancel me, I would be on the phone talking to someones supervisor.

I guess your other alternative is to add to your husbands policy like you said and the doctors office and can just sit and wait. Its only a few extra days. If the office manager would not be willing to work with you, I would bring the doctor into the conversation, because he/she can override the other lady.

Good luck, I hope you can get this all resolved before the babies come. I would hate to see the medical bills without insurance.

My biggest piece of advice is relax and take a deep breath...B-R-E-A-T-H-E..freaking out won't help anything right now. The office lady can take a flying leap plain and simple. She has no right to yell at you (or talk in that tone that indicates yelling)

Just do what you can to get on your DH's insurance and if you need to be seen go to the ER. It's all you can do...no amount of stress and worry will change it so just let it be!!!

Hugs Sweetie!!

Okay, I am a little less stressed now. I made my DH go to his work office after he got off and added me to the policy. They added me as of today! No wait period, no pre-existing conditions! As for the other policy, I think I may forgo it since we have something in place already.

My agency is aware of what is going on, but since the insurance lapse was due to my neglagence she says that I am responsible for the $800 worth of US that we had during that period. She wanted me to wait to tell my IP's about it until we had something figured out since she didn't want to cause them any extra stress, but I think it is safe to tell them now. My IM wanted me to submit charges for some headphones I bought so the babies could hear their voices, I felt like this feel in my monthly allowance so i did not worry about it. So she may insist on paying this bill anyways, we will see I guess.

I do feel like it is my fault and my IP's should not be responisible for this bill though.

As for medicaid, my contract says I cannot be on any kind of state assistance so that is out of the question.

This is great news! The most important thing is that you have insurance in place for the delivery and hospital stay.

It was not your fault nor your IPs fault, but I dont think your IPs should have to pay the whole thing since it was out of their control and not something that was agreed to in the Contract, but as an IP if it were me, I would offer to split it with you just so it was taken care of. Sometimes things come up during the surro journey that were unexpected and not any one persons fault and you just have to deal with it and go down the road.

I hope it all works out for you.
