Default 14 weeks with triplets and no insurance

HELP!!!!

What do I do??? I will be 14 weeks pregnant on Monday and just found out that the program my agency wanted me to go through will not cover me because my income is to high to qualify.

I have called other insurance plans and they all seem to have an exclusion clause for surrogates.. Any ideas?

Anybody know of any perinatologist doctors in San Diego that I can go see for a visit until my agency figures out something with the insurance issue??

Thanks ladies!!!

Hmm......shouldn't your agency help figure something out since this is partially their error?

Wow I hope you can even find insurance that will cover you since you are already pregnant and especially trips. I wish you the best of luck finding something. And yes I would think it would be your agency job to find a plan for you.

Yikes! What a predicament to be in! I'm thinking the insurance should have been in place before you got pregnant. Of course, that doesn't help now.

I don't know of any insurance plans you can get while preggo other than Lloyd's of London through New Life Insurance Agency. However, they don't cover triplet pregnancies. You would have to reduce to twins. I don't know if that is an option for you or your IPs, but it may make the difference between $29K in expenses and $100K+ after all is said and done.

I think you would really be playing with fire by attempting to continue a triplet pregnancy with no insurance. Your chances of hospital bedrest are almost guaranteed. As we all know, that's not cheap. Maybe your agency can negotiate a cash plan with a perinatalogist and a hospital somewhere. Whatever happens, they need to be the ones to worry about it, not you. I can't believe they've let you go this far without doing something!

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. Hopefully somebody will figure something out. Many hugs!

Wow, I can't believe this wasn't sorted out BEFORE the pregnancy. I thought agencies always had insurance in place before transfer. I'm so confused.

I hope things work out for you!

Up to now, what have you/your IPs been doing to get your first trimester prenatal care covered?

This is completely unacceptable! If you warned your agency that the program most likely wouldn't accept you, and they & your IPs proceeded with the match before getting this worked out, then this was completely avoidable!

It's time to do whatever you need to do to get coverage because your pregnancy almost assuredly will be a very expensive one! Not only that, but it's possible you might have trouble receiving the care you need if you have this major insurance issue! I say get coverage any way you can at this point.

Does your state have a Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies type program? Call them (or have your agency call them) and ask for suggestions. I would not even mention the surrogacy part until you get some recommendations which your agency can research.

Also, please tell the agency AND your IPs that they need to make sure that the babies have coverage after birth.

My last appointment with the RE was 6/2 and I haven't seen a doctor since that time. I wouldn't really call those visits a prenatal visit since the only thing that happened was a sonogram to check the babies. There was the normal things that an ob does.

The program the agency had me go through was AIM which is through the state, which is why I told them I wouldn't qualify due to my income. There was no talk of insurance prior to the transfer and stupid me didn't even think about it. I figured the agency had it all worked out since they do this all the time. And with this program you have to be pregnant before you could even apply. So there was never any talk of any other type of insurance.

My IPs at this point are very supportive of whatever I need to do to see a doctor. They told me to just get in to see a specialist regardless of the cost. But the problem is I don't even know where to start with that. No clue who I should see. I made an apt with my ob (try to see if it will make it through the ins for one visit if not fine) but they can't see me until the 9th of July.

The agency told me on Friday that they had someone working on it over the weekend and I was to hear something on Monday. I just feel horrible for my IPs.. They are international so they put a lot of faith and trust in the agency to ensure this was all handled. Actually they were assured it was handled and that the AIM program was the answer. My IPs are currentlly in the process of getting the babies insurance now. I think through BUPA?

I agree with that one!

What a mess to be in. If I were you and your IP's I would be pretty upset that this error was made.

I hope you find something soon.

Maybe this might help at least provide some contacts to call as you gather info?

Good luck! I hope this all gets worked out for you & the babies & your IPs!

Wow... I'm sorry you're in such a mess!! I would think you should have secured insurance BEFORE a transfer... as my sister says, you're kinda shutting the barn doors after the horses are out, now.

I would definitely throw this on the agency... the purpose behind using an agency is that they are supposed to be on top of all these little things that we, as inexperienced individuals forget. THAT is why they are paid!! If they dropped this very huge ball, your IPs have every right to be totally furious!

Good luck, dear!! I do hope you find some type of coverage. As has already been mentioned, a triplet pregnancy is going to be expensive!

Usually you can work out a cash pay contract with the perinatology group and that will cover your care with them. Then if you find insurance that will cover you- the perinatology group can re-do the contract to reflect that you have insurance. It doesn't help with hospitalizations, delivery etc.. but right now it sounds like you need to be seen for routine visits. Then maybe this will give you enough time to work out something about insurance coverage for the more expensive parts. Just an idea that may take some of the pressure off for now. You don't need this stress. Shame on the agency- I can't think of a much bigger mistake than this. Good Luck

I have to agree with the others, this is the agencies issue. Insurance should have been in place before a pregnancy was achieved.

I would start with your OB and go from there.

Good luck to you. I can't imagine having to deal with such a huge issue when pregnant with HOM. Hugs!!
