Question A question about sperm please!

Hi everyone,
For those who i haven't 'spoken' to on the UK section, my name is Roz, and i am a Straight/traditional surrogate from the UK, to a very lovely couple. This will be our second month of Insems, although we only got to do one lot last month, so we are calling them our pracitice runs!

Anyway, reading a few different threads, here and on other sites, the advice seems to change about how long to leave the 'sample' before insemination, and i wanted to pick all of your brains.
Last month, IF drove to us, went and did his business, drew it up into a syringe for me, and i went straight up and did it. It was probably a bout 5 minutes between, and it was kept warm under our arms. However, other ppl have said, to leave it for a period of time, to become runnier, and i am not sure what is the best way?
I am using Preseed, and IF is taking cough medicine (can't rmemeber the name, but its the recommended one), but it still seemed a bit 'thick' .
What are your thoughts, especially those that were successful!

Thank you!
Roz xx

Cool Hello

Hi! Welcome to SMO!
For my first TS baby we did insems similar to what you did. We didn't leave the sample out for any amount of time, maybe 5 minutes or so. Some people say to keep the room semi-dark, not sure if this works or not, but I don't think it would hurt.

Is this your first TS journey? Are you using OPK's? Charting your temp & CM?

Just keep digging through the threads & keep asking questions!

Smile Hi!

Thanks for your reply and welcome!

Yep, its my first journey and i have been trawling through so many posts here and other places to know what we are doing, that i have confused myself! When i had our 4 children, i never had to use OV sticks etc, so its a new world to me
We are using Clearblue OPKs and charting CM, but i have had a regualar 28 day cycle for the last 10 years, up until last month, when it was 4 days early!? Typical hey?!
I will just stick to what we did last month, and hopefully get some good news soon.

Thanks again!

First, don't leave it out. Using it asap is ideal, as sperm isn't designed to survive outside the human body.

Make sure your IF is staying well hydrated as well, that could affect the consistency of the semen I think.

Sounds like you are doing great Best of luck to you! and ditto on sperm not being designed to live outside the body so no need to wait.

Hi Roz,
Hope this weekend is going well for you I have some old IPs in Suffolk, near Southwold. I carried their son for them using Bourn Hall. It sounds like you are doing all you can. When I did insems we left it for 10-15 mins just to get more liquid but it is essential to keep it nice and warm, my IM liked to tuck it in her bra while she made me a cuppa then delivered both to the bedroom...so English . It worked second time for us so good luck!!

Lol just wanted to say that we have just completed 2 days of mad dashes to our TS's house whilst the syringe was tucked in my bra! Usually we do insems at my house, but typically as we were on holiday the surge appeared 2 days earlier than expected so we came home early and stayed in a hotel near our TS.

I don't know if this is just coincidence but our attempt that worked before ( we m/c at 10wks) was when my husband was on nights but our TS couldn't arrive at ours until my husband was leaving for work - so I kept it warm in my bra until she arrived.

Good luck!

Considering some of the first IUI's done on humans were to conceive certain royals about a hundred years ago...you're more right than you know!!

Hi! I am new to these boards. I am a TS as a gift to some dear friends. I wanted to give you some encouragement. My friend would drive her husband's contribution over to my house, so it was out of the source for at least 10 minutes (maybe 15) before insertion. She would keep it tucked near her body during the drive. It took 5 months and just when we were about to throw in the towel, it worked with the last, smallest attempt. I am 14 weeks and we are all so excited! It was a runny consistency and I didn't use any PreSeed with the successful attempt. Just wanted to share! Good luck!
