Default Have Kids Through Surrogacy, Go To Jail.

Newly proposed laws in Australia would make it a custodial offense for gay people to have children w/ a surrogate, altruistic or commercial does not matter. How can they go even further backward??

    Ridiculous.

However, it's good to see that a lobbying group has been formed so there will be an organized pro-surrogacy voice.

Ouch. I don't understand how people who claim to be pro-family can be so anti-family ...

See, it's not hypocrisy, it's 'flexible thought'.

What a disaster. I'm glad there is a force fighting against it and I hope they make some headway, and at the same time I hate that they're in a position to have to fight for their rights.

It is only in Queensland, not all of Australia. There are many of us fighting it. All the people I know involved in surrogacy are against it. We won't be going down without a fight! I am not in Queensland but know surrogates that are, including some that have had babies for gay couples. One just did an interview for her local paper. I have hopes it won't go through. More people in government are against it than you would think.

Why does the LNP think they have enough support for this to become law? I'm glad it's only the one state, but what a horrible thing to tell a large group of your citizens - 'You are all unsuitable parents b/c of who you love.'
ETA - We certainly do have similar bigotry here in the States but every discussion of codifying it makes me sick.

I have no idea... But there are enough people saying that they don't believe they will have the support they need for me to feel hopeful. I find it disgusting and just don't know how they sleep at night... I thought we had been moving forward.

And yet, w/ all the millions of dollars the LDS church threw at it, they chose California to fight in rather than Utah...hmmm.
