Default When will donor start period?

My IM put a deposit down on a 1st time egg donor and we have been patiently waiting for the donor to be ready. She committed to breastfeeding her child until she was a year old. IM and I both totally agree with this. She ended breastfeeding in May, but has yet to start her period. Any idea how long it could take for her to resume her cycle? IM has IVF scheduled in September, but I'm starting to think that's wishful thinking. Without starting meds to induce her period, how long could it potentially take for it to start naturally? She still needs to complete all of her physical tests before donating as well. Thank you!!

Don't quote me on this, but I think you could still make September. As far as when she'll start her period, that's anyone's guess. Sometimes after stopping breastfeeding it could take a few months (which it already has been a few I see).

I would not hold my breath. She could get a period tomorrow or 6 months from now. Perhaps your NC could ask her to get on a bcp to help regulate her. Otherwise you're at the mercy of a post-lactating endocrine system.

    Good luck!

ETA: Most REs like EDs to have 3 normal cycles prior to IVF (after breastfeeding). Do you know what your RE requires? Also, she needs to have blood work and ultrasound on CD 3, then she can begin the IVF cycle. (Which, depending on the protocol, is probably 6-8 weeks).

If the donor is willing, I would suggest having them start it with meds. There's really no telling otherwise. Some people jump right back into regular cycles. For me, it was several months after weaning my kids, and after weaning from pumping after my surrogacy in November, I had to use medication to get things going in May (6 months later). Total crapshoot.

I finished breastfeeding in early April, then got my period in June and was able to screen in July (for GS, not ED).

But honestly, there's no way to tell for sure. Hopefully it's any day now, or they can bring it about with meds. GL!

Thank you Natasha (EmmaLexiMomma) for my siggy!

I stopped breastfeeding in mid/end of June and got my period early August. My son was 10 months old when I stopped breastfeeding. I think it just depends on the person... It should come back soon, though. Good luck!

The RE wants her to have 2 periods naturally without meds inducing it. She stopped breastfeeding in May. I don't know how we can have any kind of schedule without bcp to regulate things and/or meds to start it. Also, they don't want to do any testing until after her period starts. I feel like everything is on hold.

She does have a backup donor, but she is with another agency. I'm hoping for a decision soon.

I'm sorry, that is so frustrating.

Crossing fingers she gets her period soon so that it becomes a non-issue.

    Thanks Gina!

Im is tired of waiting to move forward, so even though she loved her egg donor, she has decided to use another donor, who happens to live locally. I feel bad, because she had invested alot of time, money, and emotions into the initial donor, but hopefully this is the best route for us.
