    Default Maternity leave

I have been debating about whether to take any time off before the delivery. Part of me is jumping at the chance since I am exhausted. The other part of me knows my job isn't very strenuous and I'd be leaving a workload on my coworkers.

My boss called me into her office today to discuss my recent increase in bathroom breaks. She asked me if there was anything I could take to help reduce them. Duh... This is from someone who has never been pregnant. That said, I don't want to make pregnancy an excuse. I'm no different than any other employee, IMHO. But I don't have the patience to deal with the bull.

I saw my OB today and he didn't seem to have a problem with signing me off. Why is this such a difficult thing?? I don't want to piss anybody off, but I can't see how I'll be able to keep my mouth shut for another 3 1/2 weeks! I'm not planning on taking much time off afterward if I can help it. What would/did you do? Did you feel guilty about it?

If your boss is giving you a hard time about peeing, I say take the extra time off guilt free. That makes me mad *for* you.

Proudly pumped 5 weeks for my surrobubs!
After 6+ weeks in the NICU, Rory and Sean are home!

I wouldn't have been able to keep my mouth shut about that! I quit a job (that I had just started) because I found out that we didn't get paid for the time that we were using the facilities...like had to log out of our computer. Any company who won't pay you for 3 minutes while you pee is NOT one I want to work for! And you only have 3.5 weeks left, can your boss not suck it up about your bathroom use???? Asking you if you can take something for that is ridiculous....sorry I just realized I went on rant about it :S

Back to your question, I would definitely be taking the time off if I had the opportunity to!

That is crazy! I would choose to go out if I were you, but if you really want to keep working I'm sure your dr could also write you a note saying that extra bathroom trips are medically necessary while pregnant. Just to put your boss in her place!

That pisses me off!! (pun intended) Are you LIVING in the bathroom, or just peeing and getting back to your desk? Screw that and I'd take the maternity leave w/OUT feeling guilty.

I gave my FMLA paperwork to my OB today at my appointment. I told him my concerns and he just went ahead and signed me out as of today. I'm going to go in tomorrow to give it to my boss. And I am not going to think twice about it! It'll make her life harder, but maybe that's karma. Now she won't have to complain about my bathroom breaks!

What a witch.. I seriously can't believe she questioned your bathroom breaks. Sounds like her boss needs to question all the extra time she is spending keeping tabs on your bathroom breaks.

Oh, too bad it's already solved! I was going to suggest you tell her they're actually cigarette breaks, then watch her head spin.

I'm in the exact same position. I hate leaving my coworkers early with my job but my boss is making it impossible to stay. I am glad you've come off and can relax and pee in peace.

I think I would have had to respond with "I'm sorry you feel that my bathroom breaks are a burden. Maybe I should go ahead and go on maternity leave?"

I'm happy that you're going ahead and doing it anyway. It'll give you time to do the things you want to do before the birth. Congrats!

Thanks guys! She has been getting nit picky on me for a couple weeks, but I was just letting it slide. I had forgotten I was slotted to do a presentation this Friday and my other coworker will be on leave! So, for a little more karma, she gets to figure out how to run the office herself and manage to get out to do the presentation too! She hasn't been off the phone all morning. I am still feeling a little guilty though. I was so glad to be able to tell my kids last night that we'd be able to spend some more time together. They were all happy about that! I think my DH is relieved too because I've been coming home grumpy for the last couple of weeks. I'm thinking this is a blessing in disguise.

Wow! I don't think I could have kept a straight face if someone asked me that. Why are they even tracking your bathroom use? I'm glad you have some time off and it serves your boss right having to scramble to cover the presentation, lol.

Can you take something to make you pee less? What the heck is that?? You need the rest, enjoy the end weeks of pregnancy.

I can't imagine working in an office where my trips to the bathroom were even noticed, let alone, monitored. How long have you been there?

I've been at that office for about a year and a half. It's government, so they don't have much else to do but watch what everybody else is doing!

Good point. I was also wondering how it's so noticeable to anyone.

They're probably terrified you might tell them, so they don't ask!
