That premature birth timeline?

I remember seeing it on here before, but I can't seem to find it googling. It was like a timeline that basically showed how much benefit each day more before birth gained for a preemie's chances.

I've looked on there but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I could very well just be navigating it badly, however. I want to get the information to a friend. I'm trying to remember where I had seen it, maybe from Susan when she was on bedrest? I can't seem to come up with the right words to google to find it.

The book I have by Dr. Luke has a section that breaks it down in $$$ of NICU stay for multiple's, but not singletons. I can try posting that if it's close to what you are thinking of.

No it wasn't about the costs of NICU, it was about the survival rates as well as the disability rates at different gestational ages. I've found some information upon googling, but not such a handy tool as I remember having been posted. For someone on bedrest I would think I would give milestones to work towards as the rates improve as more time is achieved.

Here is some information taken from the internet:

23 weeks -17%
24 weeks -39%
25 weeks - 50%
26 weeks - 80%
27 weeks - 90%
28-31 weeks 90-95%
32-33 weeks 95%
34+ weeks Almost as likely as a full-term baby


A baby's chances for survival increases 3-4% per day between 23 and 24 weeks of gestation and about 2-3% per day between 24 and 26 weeks of gestation. After 26 weeks the rate of survival increases at a much slower rate because survival is high already.

When pregnant with the triplets my doctors rule of thumb was one day in my tummy was two days out if the nicu.

Right, that's what I was hoping to find. It went beyond just the chances of survival at each gestation and was really good IMO. Thanks so much for looking!

Yes it was awesome. Some days it's the only thing that prevented me from escaping the hospital by rapelling out a window (well that and the fact that my DH was smart enough to take my car home...thus explaining why I since always drive myself when in labor...so as never to be trapped in the hospital without a car again).

LOL! You made it through all that amazingly! I have so much respect for you, and I love the dry, sarcastic wit that you kept up the whole time. I have someone dear to me who has been on bedrest for about 4 weeks now and isn't quite to viability yet. I just thought it would be a good tool for her to use to shoot for goals even past viability, because that is hopefully just the first of many that will be conquered.
