At 38wks 4days of this pregnancy, I started noticing that I was "leaking" friday afternoon (4-6-12) around 6pm but I thought maybe it was the baby kicking my bladder that was causing me to leak. All night and the next day I was still "leaking" even when I was laying down or sitting still so I called the Dr's office. All they could tell me was to come in to the ER and have them do a quick test to determine if it was indeed amniotic fluid that I was leaking. I was so embarrassed to go in because I thought they would laugh at me and say "you just peed yourself" lol! But I went in anyway just to be on the safe side. So on 4-7-12 around 2:30pm I asked a friend for a ride and we even agreed that she would wait for me so she could give me a ride back home because I was so sure they would send me home straight away. The nurse checked me and sure enough, my membranes had ruptured! They had to admit me because of this and I immediately called my IPs to let them know since I am in Northwest Arkansas and they are in Florida (a 14hr drive). So they headed my way at 4pm as I was being admited. Well things were just dandy since I was not having any contractions so I was perfectly comfortable. But around 7 the dr decided since 24hrs had passed since my water broke they would get me started on pitocin. I of course was dreading this for two reasons, I had been given pitocin all 6 of my other deliveries and knew how painful it was and the other reason I didn't want to speed things up because I wanted my IPs to attend their son's birth. But the nurse told me dont worry, your only 4cm dilated and you arent having regular contractions we expect for you to dilate about a centimeter an hour when we give you pitocin. So I figured my IPs would still make it. I didnt feel too much discomfort until the doctor came in around 10:45pm and wanted to check if I was making any progress on the pitocin. She checked me and I was still at 4 1/2 cm dilated so she broke the second amniotic sac and I immediately felt alot of discomfort and the next 2 conractions were very intense. I really started thinking about getting the epidural at that point. After 2 more contractrions like those I asked my nurse to get the anesthesiologist! I told her I really needed some pain relief so she said I will give you something in your IV until he gets here, so she did and then she checked me and I was already 8cm dilated! She asked me is there anything I can get for you in the meantime? I asked for another pillow, so she left to go get one and no sooner had she left I had a incredibly intense contraction so asked my son to push the nurse-call button and as soon as she came on the intercom I was yelling "I NEED TO PUSH!" 2 nurses ran into the room and barely had enough time to pull the sheet off me and he was already crowning! I had another contractions and the nurse delivered his head (without me pushing!) she told me to push again and I did and delivered his shoulders. So I literally only pushed once! As soon as he came out I called his mom's cell phone and when she answered I told her "He's here!" I was still in total shock! I couldn't believe that in a matter of 25 minutes from them rupturing the second amniotic sac I went from 4cm to delivery! I also couldn't believe that it went so fast that he was born on the bed and the nurse had to catch him! They didn't have time to put my legs in those stir-ups and get everything set up and the Dr didn't make it there in time and neither did the anesthesiologist! I was so glad that I didn't have time for the epidural though. I immediately felt better. My fast delivery made for a fast recovery. So we welcomed Peanut into this world on 4-7-12 at 11:11pm He weighed 7lbs 3oz and was 20 inches long. His parents said their first hello to their new bundle of joy at 6am the following morning. I was so happy when I finally got to see all three of them together as a new family! I will never forget this eventful delivery and the very special part I played in making P&JW's family complete.
