Default When should we go to CA in advance of our birth?

    Hi Everyone,
It's been ages since I've posted. I'm happy to report that we are now 22 weeks & 4 days pregnant with twins! A boy and a girl! My husband and I are thrilled (we recently got back from our babymoon in Hawaii after being in San Diego for the 20 week u/s) and we're nesting away. This Sunday we have Infant/Child CPR and Baby Care Basics classes. We are trying to get everything together as early as possible since we're expecting twins. So my question to all the wonderful folks out there is when should we, who live in Washington, DC, plan to go out to California, where the babies are going to be born, so that we don't risk missing our birth? Our due date is July 27, but the agent from Creative Conceptions (Kellie, who is completely AWESOME) told us that we need to be ready and able to go out as early as May 27 since they're twins. I looked at an IVF due date calculator online that said, with twins, our average gestational due date would be July 5. My husband and I have talked about getting a place in an Extended Stay America or something so that we could go out as early as June 25. But before I make any plans, I wanted to get a sense of what other people have done or would recommend in our situation.
    Thanks a million!
    -Jay

Our due date is the 30th with twins (29th if you count leap year!!!) My International parents are coming on July 1st, but they are staying until the end of Aug. due to all the legal stuff (must be done after the birth due to where they live).

If there are any signs of a sooner birth, the IM and grandmom will try to get here sooner.

Now to beat YOUR BIRTH, subtract the # of years you have been alive and time travel back! That would be cool!

    congrats!

I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant with twins. Due July 3rd but will go a max of 38 weeks (according to the perinatologists) so that's around June 20th. My IP's are planning to travel here at 37 weeks and they'll have the whole gang in tow (their 2 year old DD and one set of grandparents).

Here's to hoping no action before then but I've also heard the statistic that 60% of twin births will happen before 37 weeks!

I would say, if you don't want to miss the birth, and you have the means, go as early as you can! My last surrogacy pregnancy was with twins and it was picture perfect, then boom! We had an ultrasound and o/b appointment on a Wednesday, everything was as great as it could be, no dilation, no contractions, nothing. Friday, labor hit like a freight train and we had an emergency c/section at only 33 weeks gestation (the father missed the birth and he lived only an hour away).

I would say it could happen at any time. I've seen people go to 38 weeks and some go at 29 weeks. So I'll have to agree that the sooner the better.

My twins were born at 34w.

There's a few recent polls here on SMO about when twins come and it's so varied! I'm in agreement with the PP, if you can come sooner I'd do it. I'm hoping I make it to 36 weeks to lessen the chance of NICU time but I know they can really come whenever they want with no indication it's going to happen.

If it were me, I would aim for 35 weeks. That was right when I became "over it" and wanted them OUT!!! I delivered at 36 weeks. Good luck!

When I was pg with my FIF's twins, they had decided to come out between 36-37 weeks, but were ready to travel much sooner than that just in case (they live in NY, I'm in CA). Turns out just past 35 weeks we thought I was going into labor so they came out about a week early... I ended up delivering via scheduled c/s at 37w2d. They honestly got a little anxious waiting once they were here, especially after hearing from the Dr. that I might delivery within a day, and to have me go 2+ weeks was great, but hard to wait. In fact, with the DR's approval they moved the c/s date up by 5 days. They stayed in a regular hotel suite with a kitchen.

I had a friend who delivered surro twins around the same time, and her (international) IF's came out about 2 months early b/c she was having ptl on several occasions... they rented a furnished apartment for that period of time since it was so long (their twins had a nicu stay for a few weeks, and then they couldn't travel right away after they were released, so it was nice for them to have a more "homey" setting.

Well, we decided that my IM had better come down around 35 weeks. She got into town to stay with me and my family at 35w0d exactly. I went into labor/developed pre-E the next day at 35w1d and went into the hospital that night. I delivered by emergency c-section early the next morning at 35w2d. We obviously cut it very close! We had no signs or anything- just pure luck that she flew in the day that she did!!!
