They took bloodwork to see if it could be a bloodclot and the levels were elevated which led them to believe it was. So after consult with OB dr they had to do a CT scan. Well fortunately the CT scan ruled out a bloodclot so I was sent home. OB dr (whom I now love) called me later that afternoon to see what was happening and he put me on mucinex and tylenol for what he though might be the start of bronchitis or viral infection. Saturday started feeling 100% better, however, I started coming down with a rash. As of tonite (Sunday) I am covered from head to toe with a itchy rash so called dr. and apparently its an allergic reaction to the contrast die they used for CT scan. OMG what a nightmare!! The hubby is now off to the store to get me some benedryl to hopefully clear it up. Grateful the baby is doing fabulous though, we got to hear her a couple times at the hospital and I have been reassured that there is no risk to her.

Anyways, hope everyone else had a less eventful weekend then me.
Wow,what a crazy weekend. I hope you feel better soon!!!

AFM: I am not sure if it is pregnancy related or not, but I am itchy all over. It is like a prickley type of itch. I only notice it when I am sitting or laying down. It feels like someone is poking me with a sharp point, and then that spot itches. It has been going on since Wednseday. I may go crazy.

AFM - I was at a gtg at a friend's last night. I got to see a few people I haven't seen in a long time. I made one almost cry. When she found out the pregnancy is a surrogacy she started to tear up. Her DD is 20 months. It took her over 7 years of trying to have her.
That's so sweet!! It's so amazing how many people I have come across that have struggled so much to build their families.

No itching here. I hope it clears up for you soon. I would imagine it is very uncomfortable.

AFM: Aside from a few leg cramps (had them really bad with DD), I'm feeling great. Definitely grew a bit over the last week too. Had a super busy weekend and got a little bit of a sunburn. Both DS's had soccer games on Saturday, then went for Bluebonnet pictures with a friend and her two girls, then to the Zoo and soccer game for oldest DS today. Ready to head to bed for a good night's sleep.

    Very cute Julie!

I have a growth scan on Weds and they'll measure my cervix again, yay (sarcasm lol). I'm getting reflux already which is really disappointing I've had acid issues my whole life but with prevecid it's been really well controlled. I'm not looking forward to spending the rest of this pregnancy burping acid.

had my appointment with the MFS today. Both babies are looking great.

They both still are boys LOL very loud and very proud of those they are LOL
Both are laying sideways, with both of their heads on my right, and feet on my left. Baby A is on bottom, baby B is on top.

Baby A weighs in at 1 pound 7 ounces and heart rate of 161
Baby B weighs in at 1 pound 5 ounces and heart rate of 157

They are within 3% of each other, which the dr said is amazing for twins. He was concerned because Baby B's cord is weird, it comes out of the side of the placenta instead of the top, which he thought would cause growth concerns, but said it must be going just fine.

He also said my cervix is 4cm and is very closed and high. He said that is a very good sign in multiples and hopes it means no bedrest or preterm labor.

I will try and get some pics on later.

I just found out we will have to do a step parent adoption so my name is on the birth certificate. I'm assuming it comes off after a few months once the international adoption goes through?

Also, my agency is saying that the babies are my dependents until then so they can go on my insurance? I have signed away custody to my awesome IP starting right after birth. I think I disagree with the insurance of someone else's children on my policy. They say it isn't fraud as they will be my dependents with custody to my IP! I just feel bad about laying this on my IP as I'm sure they have been told all along...."don't worry about the children's insurance!"

I would personally not be okay with my insurance being used to pay for a child who isn't mine. IMO no matter what steps you have to go through, surrogacy is all about intent and your insurance (if they found out) is going to care about that rather that whatever steps must be followed in your state.

Kay-- I would not, under any circumstances, put the babies on your insurance. I know there's an agency that wants their surrogates to do that and it's fraud because as Lena said it about intent and these babies were always intending to be your IPs.

My insurance will cover the 2-3 day normal hospital stay following a delivery no matter whose baby it is, it's just what is included with my maternity coverage. After that it's up to me to add babies to my plan (if they were my babies).

My insurance is the same, it will cover the 2-3 day stay of the babies while I am in the hospital but after that they are on their own unless I were to add them, which given they are NOT my babies, I didn't.

We also had to do a step-parent adoption. We found out late into the pregnancy we couldn't do a pre-birth order so mine and my husbands names went on the birth certificate, then we just signed power of attorney after birth allowing all decisions to be made by IPs. Later we had to go to court to sign the paperwork and new birth certificates were produced with their names as parents. It was a royal pain in the *** and thankfully this time around we are able to do pre-birth orders.

If one of the IPs will be on the BC then they should be able to put them on insurance on their own. You shouldn't need to and shouldn't do it. Even in an adoption situation they should be able to cover a child on their own insurance as long as the right papers (custody, etc.) are in order. I'm not very knowledgeable in insurance issues but from what little I know they should be fine either way without using your insurance.

I disagree w/them and have explained my insurance to them at length, when we were initially considering IP's from Spain. W/our insurance (Cigna-HealthPartners), we canNOT have the babies on our insurance. Our insurance will cover them for that 1st 30 days *IF* they are added to the policy by the end of that period. If they are NOT added, all payments made on behalf of the babies is rescinded. If we DO add them to the policy so that they would be covered until they went home, then we are NOT allowed to remove them until the next open enrollment period. The agency tried to tell me that once the proceeding were done and I had that legal paperwork, all I had to do was send a copy of that to the insurance company to have baby/ies removed w/no problems....my insurance company, however, disagrees w/that. They have stated that since that is the intent from the beginning, all payments again would be rescinded that were made on behalf of the baby/ies. The IP's can negotiate a cash payment for expenses incurred for the babies and it often is much cheaper than what the hospitals, etc negotiate w/insurance companies. Talk to Charity...that's what her IF just did and it really was a lot cheaper for him to do a cash pay. Also, talk to Holli about the timeline, as that is waaaay longer than her's took. Charity just had the IF to deal w/but Holli had both the IM and IF.

I've been w/out my laptop for almost a week now, we JUST got a new tower for our desktop, so I've only been online from my phone and it's made it very difficult to keep up and respond, so I'm sorry I've missed so many of you! I hope things are going well for everyone, for those that haven't been feeling well or have had difficulties, I hope things are improving.

We're 24wks today, have our growth scan Friday morning followed by our meeting w/the OB that will be shadowing our case. I've been hearing a lot of wonderful things about her, so am anxious to meet her. I think my biggest "fear" is how she will accept or handle my IF's. There are still so many people w/issues when it comes to same-sex couple's...praying she's not one of them!

I had a growth scan yesterday with the peri. Baby A is head down and about 15 oz. Baby B is head up and about 1 lb 1 oz. They were so active, almost hyper!

They checked my cervix length, it was a bit longer than 4 weeks ago, 3.84 inches but still shorter than it should be. I had cryosurgery in 97 for pre-cancer cells which took away some of the length. It never mattered before in pregnancy but with 2 I guess it does. I have to go back in 2 weeks for another cervix check and a FFN swab.

They're also watching my iron levels and the peri said I could get iron injections rather than waiting until my levels are low enough for transfusions. I haven't told them yet that IF now wants me to go up to Ohio and deliver like we originally planned. I was playing it by ear in case something put me on bed rest. I plan to leave VA on Mother's Day weekend.

I talked w/Holli about her situation. Her IP's used an ED as well, so had to do a step-parent adoption for her IM. They were in court about 5 days after the birth and EVERYTHING was handled right then and there...no waiting months. I guess part of me is confused why it would take that long, especially as experienced as he is w/international IP's. Her IP's (they are from Italy) purchased a seperate policy to cover their DS, so it is more than obvious that it would be available to your IP's and they (the agency) know how to help arrange it. Depending on the hospital, arranging a cash pay for the babies could save them 30-50% OR MORE off the total bill for them. (that was what Charity's IF did)

With my last surrobaby, towards the end of my pregnancy the agency told my IPs not to worry about insurance because my insurance would cover the baby for 30 days. I then had to call my IPs and tell them no way, that that wasnt how my insurance was intended. They were able to put the baby on their policy though.

AFM: I have felt horrible since yesterday afternoon. It has been hot flash after hot flash. I have thrown up a few times. My muscles feel really fatigued. I get dizzy and weak. Each episode lasts between 20-60 minutes. In between episodes, I feel great though.
