Hello,
I'm a 4x proven donor who had a false positive syphilis test in Dec 2010 in the midst of a cycle. We got better testing (RPR and FTA-ABS--99 percent accurate) versus the new FDA syphilis test (which is called the CAPTIA EIA). The testing plus a letter from an infectious disease specialist meant the cycle was able to move forward and was a success. I was told as long as my future donations were known and my IPs signed waivers I should have no trouble donating again at all but the strictest of clinics.
I was matched again recently and had it fall through because the IPs clinic would not accept any FDA exceptions. I am told they don't want to deal with them during audits. I feel terrible as I did not anticipate this at all. And so frustrated for being punished for an STD I've never had in my life.
I am hearing now that some clinics allow exceptions and would take me, but it is not the norm. So I'm writing to ask if you know of any of these specific clinics where I should make inquiries. I feel strongly about my decision to donate and really want to help more families if at all possible as I'm somewhat rare as a donor.
