Surrogacy and Egg Donation Q and A

Surrogate Mothers Online Q & A
  • Q & A: Medical Issues - Egg Donation

Topics may include the risks involved in egg donation, side effects from meds, questions about protocol, etc.

    8. I have decided to become an egg doner and have my first appointment on February 8 to discuss the procedure and do the paperwork. I am a bit nervous about the whole thing as I have never done this before. I have two healthy children and could not imagine my life without them, which is why I chose to do this. I am currently taking birth control pills and am wondering how this will affect this procedure. When will they take me off the pill and for how long? Will they wait until the week of my cycle or will they interupt my pills in the middle of the month? Thank you for your help. - Asha in FL - Top

    Dear Asha,

Most RE's have a certain protocol that they use with their egg donors. Some put you on birth control pills to regulate your cycle along with Lupron. Many times this is to surpress your cycle to get you in sync with your recipient.

Usually after you have had all your testing, you will be told to call the office on the first day of your period (DAY 1) and will begin taking meds on Day 21 of your cycle. But this all depends on the RE you are using.

Good luck on everything, and be sure to write down any questions you may have so you can ask the RE.
