    18. I have been told by the Dr. that following implantation I will have to have 48 hours rest. I have four children. I have the friend who I am carrying for available and more than willing to help, but I wanted to know any advice you might have to make it the easiest for all of us. Please let me know any things that you think I could do, such as have the kids somewhere else or in their own home. I want to be prepared. Thanks again. - Shawn in NJ - Top

    Shawn in NJ,

48 hours is about the average amount of bedrest time following transfer. The range is anywhere from 2 hours after xfer to 5 days after transfer. Dpending on the age of your child, it might be best to have someone else since younger children won't understand why mommy can't pick them up.

Best of luck on your journey!

    Shawn,

You're lucky your doctor only requires 48 hours of rest after your IVF transfer. There are a lot of Drs. that require 3 and 4 days rest. My Dr. required 3 1/2 days post IVF transfer. Having a helper with your children there at your home is a good idea. I personally don't think you should disrupt their home for a few days due to you being on bedrest. I would think that the couple you're being a surrogate for should pay for household help for the days your laid up in bed. Rent lots of movies and get a few games down and just play with your kids in your bed while you're on bedrest. It's great quality playing time for them and then your children may feel like they are involved a little bit more. I know mine did. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best surrogacy experience.
