  • Q & A: Typical Requirements & Screening - Egg Donation

Topics may include typical requirements for becoming an egg donor, the screening process, qualities to look for in an egg donor/IP via egg donation, etc.

    1. I am a young educated healthy woman and I feel I would be a good egg donor candidate. Being 20 year old I do not have any children of my own and have always had very protected sex to make sure I did not get pregnant(or anything else for that matter). I became interested in donating but in my reasearch read that it is preferable if you have concieved a child before. My question is, where does that leave me. - Celine in Canada

    2. I would like to become an egg donor. I was told that my family history of genetic disease wouldn't matter as long as I was not a carrier, but after being rejected by several intended parents and one agency I am having second thoughts. What do you think? - Anonymous

    3. I am 20 years old. I will be 21 in Jan. 2000 I have HPV and I was wondering if that disqualifies me for egg donation. Ihave not had any symptoms for 2 years. I would also like to know the specific requirements for egg donation. - Sara in TX

    4. I am interested in becoming an egg donor. However, I am concerned that I may not qualify because I have vaginal warts. I know that this will not effect my eggs and since I am not going to be carrying the baby it should not be a problem. It is just that I do not know what the medical criteria is for an egg donor. I have no other health problems. Thanks. - Anonymous

    5. i am a 33 year old university professor, never married, in excellent health, and i am seriously considering egg donation. in fact, i have already done the paper work with one organization and have several inquiries into my file. before doing this, i really want an "inside" look at the process and have an number of questions. i am curious about both the physical & emotional nature of this process. although i want to have children one day, i am not at all sure as to whether or not i will--i feel that my eggs are "going to waste" in the meantime and would love to help a couple build a family. i have other thoughts and reasons for desiring this, but overall, feel very strongly compelled to do this. i would appreciate hearing from you. thanks! - christine in TX

    6. Hello, I was wondering what minimum age do you have to be to donate eggs, or be either an ai or gs surrogate? - Lydia in Ontario, Canada

    7. I am 20 years old. I will be 21 in Jan. 2000 I have HPV and I was wondering if that disqualifies me for egg donation. Ihave not had any symptoms for 2 years. I would also like to know the specific requirements for egg donation. - Sarah in TX

    8. I was wondering if mental illness (social phobia, major depression, but both are better)make you unelligible to donate your eggs. - Anonymous

    9. I am very interested in helping a loving couple have a child. As a mother, I know it is the most wonderful miracle in the world. I am concerned, however, that my parents may have their privacy invaded if questions are asked regarding health issues, etc. They are very private people. How do I keep this information between me and the couple I wish to donate to? Is this even possible? Peace in Eastern Washington

    10. You said that donating eggs takes about two months of your time.I have heard by clinics that it is only 2-3 weeks. Why the difference in time? Also I heard that there is a drug that can be taken orally instead of an injection. What have you heard about this? I'm sorry, but I don't remember the name of the drug. - Chris

    11. I am a 25 year old woman who is interested in becoming an egg donor. I am an overweight person and I'm wondering if it would still be possible or advisible to donate? - Anonymous
