Surrogacy and Egg Donation Q and A

Surrogate Mothers Online Q & A
  • Q & A: Typical Requirements & Screening - Egg Donation

Topics may include typical requirements for becoming an egg donor, the screening process, qualities to look for in an egg donor/IP via egg donation, etc.

    10. You said that donating eggs takes about two months of your time.I have heard by clinics that it is only 2-3 weeks. Why the difference in time? Also I heard that there is a drug that can be taken orally instead of an injection. What have you heard about this? I'm sorry, but I don't remember the name of the drug. - Chris - Top

    Dear Chris,

It usually takes at least 2 months for the egg donation process as you have to fill out all paperwork, have all testing completed, and be matched and coordinated with a recipent couple. This all takes time. I would be really impressed if a clinic was able to do all of this plus your cycle and donation in 3 weeks-start to finish.

The only oral medication I know of for stimulating multiple folicles is Clomid, and it is not used for an egg donation cycle as the injectables are still the most reliable form available.

But science is always developing, so it could become a possibilty in the future.
