Surrogacy and Egg Donation Q and A

Surrogate Mothers Online Q & A
  • Q & A: Just Starting Out - Egg Donation

For those just starting down the egg donation path. Topics may include finding the right match, pros and cons of anonymous vs. known donor, independent vs. and agency or broker, where to start, etc.

    7. I am interested in becoming an egg-donor, but I would like to know and possibly decide to whom my eggs are donated. I am very concerned that me eggs be given to a good-hearted couple. Also, I am adopted and do not know my genetic background. Will this hinder my ability to be a good candidate? Thank you for your help!! - Tracie in MO - Top

    Dear Tracie,

If you want an open egg donation, there are two ways to go about it. One is to place a free ad on SMO's classified section or contact an agency that handles this kind of donation. Many do not. My egg donation in which I have contact with the couple was through Shelley Smith's Program in Los Angeles. I had a wonderful experience with her agency, and the couples were all very carefully screened.

Some programs won't take you if you're adopted (because there is no genetic info). I was adopted too -but I found my birth parents at the age of 24.

    Good Luck,
