    29. What is the percentage of surrogates that end up keeping the baby? - Melissa in CA - Top

I don't know any hard numbers, nor any specifically on surrogates wanting to keep the baby(ies). What I have heard is that less than 1/2 of 1% of all surrogacy arrangements "fail" for any reason -- financial disagreements, the surrogate wanting to keep the baby, or the intended parent not wanting the baby after it is born. And these few cases are usually due to improper or lacking psychological screening of all parties involved. At an adoption information meeting my husband and I were told that 20-25% of adoptions fall thru because the birth mother decides to parent or the grandparents or father want the baby themselves.

I have never met a surrogate who wanted to keep the baby -- and I have met over 100 surrogates.
