    31. Could you please define the AI/GS surrogate. my wife and I are just starting to look in to surrogates and don't know much about it. - Bill in So. MD - Top

    Dear Bill,

Hi! An AI surrogate or traditional surrogate is a woman who uses her own egg. She is artifically inseminated with the father's (or a donor's) sperm. Your surrogate will genetically be the mother of your child. All you have to do is a step parent adoption and in some states you have to petition the court to have the father's name on the birth certificate.

A GS surrogate or carrier surrogate, has the fertilized egg transferred into her uterus via IVF. This way your surrogate has no genetic link to your child. You would have to petition the court before birth to have your name and your wife's name put on the birth certificate.

If you ever have anymore questions let me know. Your welcomed to email me privately, anytime.
