    24. I am doing a project at school and I need to know when and where the first surrogacy baby was born. - Veg in WA - Top

I don't know who was the first surrogacy baby born, but surrogacy has been around for centuries. The first known example is even in the bible -- Abraham's wife Sara could not give him a child so she had her handmaid (servant) Hagar have one for them. This is what we would call "traditional" surrogacy today where the surrogate uses her own egg to produce the child.
But through modern technology, it is now possible to have a surrogacy where the child is from the genetic material of both the intended father and the intended mother through in-vitro fertilization where they extract the egg from the intended mother, fertilize it with the sperm from the intended father and place the resulting embryo into the surrogate to carry. This is known as "gestational" surrogacy.

I don't know who the first gestational surrogate baby was, but the first in-vitro fertilization baby was Louise Brown who is now in her late teens (I think).

    Good luck on your paper.

The first that I know of is in the Bible when Abraham and Sarah had a surrogate. As far as I know, surrogacy has been going on for centuries but I have no documented proof of that. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Noel Keane wrote a book. That is the first one I know of. But I have been doing some reading that Pam Levin did one in 1978. So try there and see if that helps.
