    27. I'm doing a paper in school on Surrogate Mothers and I would like to have your ideas on the good and bad things of being a Surrogate. - Anonymous in Scott County, VA - Top

I am an intended parent, but I will answer your question as best I can. I think the best part of being a surrogate would have to be the joy that you are bringing into someone elses life. The wounds in their souls you are healing. The lifelong difference you are making in someone else's life. This is the greatest act of charity you can give someone.

The "bad" things about being a surrogate would depend on if you are a Traditional (your egg, intended father's sperm) or Gestational (intended mother's egg and intended father's sperm fertilized In Vitro) Surrogate. In both, you have all the normal aggravations, mood swings, discomfort, etc. of any other pregnancy. But, with Gestational Surrogacy, you have the added discomfort of having to get daily injections of various fertility hormones until the 12th week of pregnancy. You also have a much greater risk of a multiple pregnancy which brings with it it's own complications.

From what I have learned from my Surrogate friends, keeping the goal in mind (creating a family where there once was none) is what gets them thru the "bad" times.

    Hope this helps.
