    8. I am a gestational surrogate. I am also a first grade teacher. Do you know any surrogates that are teachers? What has been their experience? I would appreciate your suggestions regarding when and what I should tell my first grade students and their parents. - Kelli in CA - Top

    Kelli,

I personally don't know any teachers being a surrogate mother. My son was in first grade when I was a surrogate mother. I was a co/room mother (helper). His teacher introduced me as my son's mom and what I was there for, as a room mother (helper), and explained to the children that I was carrying a little baby in my tummy because there were 2 people that were married that can't have a baby because the lady (mom to be) had a broken tummy and that I was carrying the baby for them so they can have a child of their own. It seemed to me that the children totally understood, and I had alot of support from other moms too. I hope I was of some help. That's all that I can relate to as from the teachers point of view.

    Good Luck,
    Sherry

    Kelli,

Hello! Yes there are surrogates who are teachers. As far as telling people, I would tell the children when their questions start arising. Keep it simple and don't get too detailed. With the parents, you may choose to send home a letter and just give a brief explaination about surrogacy and that you will be doing one. But, be cautious. Some people may take
offense at what you are doing. You may choose to wait until you are showing, just in case of a miscarriage. But, let people approach you and ask. That way you can give them more of an individual answer and if they have more of a detailed question you can answer that individually.

Good Luck with your surrogacy. Your a great person.
