    Lisa,

How much a surrogacy arrangement costs depends on the type of surrogacy you pursue -- with a friend/family member or a paid surrogate, an independent arrangement or thru an agency. I can tell you that the "average" surrogacy fee for gestational surrogacy two years ago was 12 to 15,000 for a singleton pregnancy with a 2-3,000 increase per multiple child. These fees don't
include any miscellaneous expenses such as travel, childcare, etc. Medical fees are usually due in advance since most insurances don't pay for
surrogacy procedures. Legal fees are also usually paid by retainer and therefore are paid in advance. The surrogacy fees and expected monthly expenses are typically placed in a trust account with your lawyer or an accountant and are paid monthly to the surrogate from this account once a pregnancy has been attained or as expenses occur. You will also incur legal fees for parentage action or step-parent adoption proceedings as well as medical costs to transfer the embryos.
