Surrogacy and Egg Donation Q and A

Surrogate Mothers Online Q & A
  • Q & A: Just Starting Out - Surrogacy

For those just starting down the surrogacy path. Topics may include finding the right match, pros and cons of independent vs. agency, where to start, etc.

    8. My niece is considering being a traditional surrogate for my husband and me. The only reservation she has is if she will be able to "give up" the baby. She has 3 lovely children of her own. She, of course, will be having a relationship with the child as a cousin. What are your thoughts/experience with giving the baby to the intended parents and not taking the child home with you? - Jeanne in Minnesota - Top

    Jeanne,

I can not tell you what it is like to give a baby to it's intended parent because I was the intended parent. However, I can say that until your niece is 100% sure she can do this you should not start anything. Our SM was wonderful and we are still very close today. As a matter of fact she is currently carrying our second child. She was very sure that she did not want another child to raise and thought of the surrogacy as if she were donating an egg to us and carrying the child also. She never has or did think of
    Nichole as "her" child.
