Surrogacy and Egg Donation Q and A

Surrogate Mothers Online Q & A
  • Q & A: Just Starting Out - Surrogacy

For those just starting down the surrogacy path. Topics may include finding the right match, pros and cons of independent vs. agency, where to start, etc.

    22. I'm 20 years old and have three beautiful children. I have thought more than once on becoming a surrogate mother but I do not want the child to be from my flesh and blood. I would love to carry a child for someone using their own eggs and sperm. How often do couples choose to do this instead of the easier surrogacy? How would I go about searching for couples that are interested in this type of surrogacy? And one last question, with this type of surrogacy would I be able to have any type of contact with the baby after the birth? If you could give me any information on this that you feel I could use, please do so! I'm ready, willing, and able to take any kind of advice that you could give to me. - Heather - Top

    Heather,

I think this kind of surrogacy (called Gestational Surrogacy) is more common than Traditional Surrogacy today.

There are many ads on SMO of intended parents searching for gestational surrogates. There are also many surrogacy agencies around that will find a match for you and take care of coordinating medical testing, psychological testing, contracts, etc.

Regarding contact after the birth, it depends on how the intended parents feel. Some want contact, others don't. It doesn't matter what type of surrogacy is used. You should make it known from the beginning that you desire pictures and phone calls (or whatever) after the birth.

There are several informative articles on SMO that can help answer questions for you. There are also other web sites dedicated to surrogacy that have good information.

    Best of luck,

    Heather,

You would be doing a Gestational surrogacy. And I
would try contacting some of the agencies in CA.
There is a list in the Related Links section here on SMO. And of course contact is solely up to the
    parents.

    Good Luck,
