Surrogate Mothers Online Q & A
  • Q & A: Just Starting Out - Surrogacy

For those just starting down the surrogacy path. Topics may include finding the right match, pros and cons of independent vs. agency, where to start, etc.

    30. I am interested in surrogacy in Britain. My brother is unable to have children and he and his wife are considering looking for a surrogate to have a child for them. I am unable to find any information on the web for Britain. Can anyone help? - Debbi in Merseyside England - Top

    Debbie,

Hello! Commercial surrogacy in Britian is illegal. As it is anywhere in Europe. I do know that sometimes they do allow surrogacy but under very tight and strict regulations. I have no clue to tell you where to begin or look. But if you contact Shirly Zager at OPTS, she may be able to tell you where to begin.

(Editor's note: Another good resource regarding surrogacy in Britain is C.O.T.S. (Childlessness Overcome Through Surrogacy). Their website address is http://www.surrogacy.org.uk/index.htm. Hope this helps! - Jenn Z. :) - Updated: January 14, 2000
